Did you know Native Americans played a key role in winning World War II?
The Song:
Honoring The Code, is a song that blends Steven's style of the Traditional Native American flute with traditional voice. Steven has collaborated with two award winning artists, Cody Blackbird & Jay Begaye. This song is in honor of Chester Nez, who was the last of the original 29 Navajo Code Talkers. Chester passed away on June 4, 2014 at the age of 93.
He served as a Code Talker in the battles of Guadalcanal, Guam and Peleliu. Spoken in the Navajo language, Jay Begaye speaks these words that Steven wrote in honor of this great man: "During World War 2, The Japanese had broken almost every code that the United States had used. The United States knew that a new code had to be created. So the United States turned to an ancient culture, An ancient language, known, as The Dine'.
Twenty nine men of the Navajo Nation were recruited to create this code. These 29 men became known as The Navajo Code Talkers. Let us now honor these great men. Who sacrificed themselves for their country, for their Land, and for their people. Especially, one of the last original 29 Navajo Code Talkers, Chester Nez".

The Dreamcatcher:
Many indigenous tribes give deep symbolic meaning to the dreamcatcher. Its circular shape represents the continuous Circle of Life. The web inside the circle is designed to catch all dreams, good and bad. The various beads, stones or gems attached to the web represent the spider who will seize the nightmares and bind them so they will be burned away by the morning light.
The dangling feathers are the conduits that allow the good dreams to filter down and into the mind of the sleeping person below. Above all, it’s important to remember that the Dreamcatcher is a work of art - a creation into which each artist pours his or her heart and expression.
